taken this Quran as [a thing] abandoned.

And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Quran as [a thing] abandoned."[1]


1- i.e., avoiding it, not listening to or understanding it, not living by it, or preferring something else to it.

And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff,"[1] and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.
