Hope and Fear

There is a feeling that only those who believe are aware of…
To live between hope and fear.

Hope…
That Allah will forgive.

That Allah will accept.

That Allah will repair what passing days have broken.

And fear…
That you will go astray.

That your heart will slowly drift away.

That you will be deprived of closeness.

The believer does not lead a life of hope only…
Nor one of fear only…
But rather a life that is halfway between both.

If hope prevails… then the heart is overcome by sluggishness.

If fear prevails… then the soul falls in despair.

But when they are brought together… the path becomes straight.

We hope for His mercy…
And fear our shortcomings.

We smile because Allah is forgiving…
And weep because we are negligent.

This astonishing state of mind…
Is what brings about true faith.

To walk towards Allah…
With a heart full of hope…
A heart full of fear…

{And a soul that knows full well that Allah's door is never closed.
And [mention] the man of the fish [i.e., Jonah], when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, ""There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.}AL‑ANBIYĀ’ 87"
