When the Quran teaches us how to disagree

When the Quran teaches us how to disagree

“And speak to them words of appropriate kindness.” [An-Nisa: 5]
Allah does not command us to prevail when arguing,
nor to silence those who disagree with us,
but rather to take dialogue to a higher level.

The Quran does not teach us that words are weapons,
but rather elements deposited in trust.
That loud voices do not confer strength,
and that silence is sometimes more eloquent than a thousand arguments.
Allah said: "And speak to them words of appropriate kindness."
One word only: kindness.
It includes courtesy, mercy, and respect,
even towards those who do not understand you or reject you.
Dialogue in the Quran does not mean making concessions,
nor does it means being defiant,
but rather to build a bridge of understanding.
It means listening so as to understand, not to argue.

And when you disagree with someone,

bear in mind that the aim is not to bring them down,

but to enlighten them.

That is the language of the Quran:

To argue in the best manner,

even with one's adversaries.

Because a word spoken from a pure heart,

will reach a heart that seeks the truth,

even if it takes time.
