Why do we live? What is the purpose of our existence?

Why do we live? What is the purpose of our existence?

Imagine that you pause for a moment… away from work, far from the daily hustle bustle, and the constant stream of never-ending news.
And that you sit all alone with that old yet ever-present question on your mind:

Why do we live?

And why do we always feel like we are constantly in search for something… even though we may possess everything?

Every human being, wherever they may be, harbors this question deep inside,

as if it were a thin thread that connects us all to a truth we are unaware of.

The Quran does not offer a ready-made answer that snuff out the mind…

Rather, it widely opens a window so as to meditate on the meaning of existence.

Allah says:

“Then did you then think that We created you uselessly and that to Us would not be returned ?” (Al-Mu'minun 115)

A question that shakes people’s inner being:

Is it reasonable to think that you come into this world… grow up… work… suffer… and then admit that everything ends without meaning?

When you think this way…

You realize that your life is not a coincidence,

and that this deep feeling of a search for meaning is not an illusion… but a sign.

A sign that tells you that you are not merely a body that lives and dies,

but a soul looking for its path,

and that knows deep down that this path does not end at the limits of life in this world.

Escaping reality is not the goal,

nor is clinging to rituals,

the goal is rather to discover the meaning of your existence…

and to discover that there is a Creator who knows you,
who is closer to you than you might think,

and who is more merciful towards you than anything you have ever experienced.

Why do we live?

Because your life is a message…

And because your existence is not in vain.

And a questioning heart… is the first step towards truth.
