"If there had not been among the previous nations those who forbade corruption on earth, destruction would have been complete, but Allah saved a few of them.

O Allah, grant us to be among the reformers!

And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed – all of them entirely. Then, [O Muúammad], would you compel the people in order that they become believers?

And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah

And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened [i.e., bestowed] upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.[1]

And is one who was dead and We gave him life and made for him light by which to walk among the people like one who is in darkness, never to emerge therefrom? Thus it has been made pleasing to the disbelievers that which they were doing.
