And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater."

And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape?

Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].

The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely –

O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book [i.e., the Quran]By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses...
